Dear all.
We have quite a few matters to discuss and it would be good to get the input of as many Players and Parents as possible.
Apart from the usual AGM stuff, this is the opportunity to tell us what you think about important issues such as; practice sessions, matches, fees and the general management of the club.
We also need to get your help;
Our Treasurer Lucy has considered standing down due to pressure of work; however, she's recently (and thankfully) decided that she can continue for another year. However, some help would be appreciated and it would be good to have an assistant Treasurer who could aide and perhaps take over in the future.
Fund raisers. We’re always short of money and need some folks to step forward, take the initiative and organise or help to organise, some fund raising events.
Team managers. The coaches are already stretched and need volunteers to help with match day; meet and greet the opposition at home games, transport rota for away games, liaison with venue staff. Not too onerous this one, typically suited to someone that follows their Son’s / Daughter’s team.
Secretarial help. Dominique presently has to do a multitude of jobs including; liaising with other clubs and the leagues, venue bookings, recording committee meetings etc. We could do with giving her some support.
Chairman. Like Lucy, I was intending to step aside this year, due to external pressures but have also reconsidered and will continue in the role (if re-elected). However, we currently have no vice Chairman and need to fill this position and ideally, the volunteer would be willing to take over the Chairman's role in the future.
General. As you probably know, or can tell, the present committee are spread very thinly and pretty much anyone that's willing to help out in some way, would be appreciated.
All committee officers retire annually anyway, so if any role interests you, please let us know. Expression of interest and any questions, would be appreciated in advance. enquiries@cambridgecats.co.uk
I hope to see you there.

Chairman

The Scoreboard says it all
21 Mar 2009 - Oxford Eagles take the title
Cambridge Cats and Oxford Eagles after their final game of the season in the U18 National League, Southern Conference.
Not a one sided game by any means but Oxford were convincing victors, showing the form that places them firmly at the top of the table as this year's league champions.
Thanks for the game and Congratulations Oxford!!!!
Final score; Cambridge Cats 63, Oxford Eagles 87
20 Mar 2009 - The Big Man leaves on a high
Cats U16's win final game.
Saturday 14th March. Cambridge Cats U16's gave coach Andrews Collins a winning send off as he takes a well earned rest from coaching . The Cats under 16's at home for their final game of the season against West Anglia Fury, started slowly, matching the Fury basket for basket in the first quarter. The game was tied at the end of Q1 ,but things changed
quickly as Cats applied pressure to the Fury guards and getting turnovers for easy lay-ups to build a solid lead at the way point in the game. The Fury didn't give up and came storming back in Q3 to make Q4 a difficult period for the Cats.
Cats held their nerve to take the win 63- 47. This was a good win for the Cats and coach Collins who finished the season 8 & 6.
Cats 63, Fury 47.
16 Mar 2009 - Peterborough Basketball League
I am both disappointed and saddened to announce that the club has been suspended from the Peterborough Basketball league.
More details have been circulated by way of a newsletter which is being handed out at training sessions. However, in essence, following a long period of 'strained relations' between the club and one of the PBL officials, an argument developed concerning anomalies over player registrations after a recent P5 match and the league made a hasty decision to suspend the Cats for the remainder of the season.
The severity and timing of the league's action was questionable to say the least, as it was applied to the entire club, not just the team in question. It was also initiated the day after the Cats Senior men won the cup and was less than a week before they were to challenge the league favourites, for the P1 title. Although the fixtures were almost at an end, we are hugely disappointed that the players and coaches have had the end of their season robbed, by what appears to be a very dubious decision.
I am personally organising an appeal, with the support and involvement of England Basketball and intend to pursue this very strongly.

09 Mar 2009 - Big Cats win Peterborough basketball league Cup
Cambridge Cats Men win Peterborough League Cup.
Sunday 8th March
There was a certain feeling of unfinished business going into this game as the team had under-performed in last season’s cup run. Cats and Wellingborough had shared the honours in the league both winning their home tie and with this being a cup final game on a natural court it was much more than just ‘bragging rights’ to play for.
After a few nervy exchanges in the first minutes Wellingborough scored first and led the game 10 – 6 to the half way point of the first period, but the quarter belonged to Jack Dexter scoring 8 points to move the Cats to a 15-18 lead. With 8 unanswered points early in Q2, Wellingborough were in trouble and with the Cats defence proving difficult to break down, the lead was 27-41 at half time. With The Big Cats in control and the result now almost assured it was no surprise when Wellingborough came out from the break fighting to reduce the deficit. But the Cats were ready for this. The pressure on the ball defence released Walchina and Charlwood for easy layups that helped to keep the score moving. The fourth quarter was a mere formality with all Cats’ players taking to the court and maintaining the lead. With everyone in the team scoring - this was most definitely a team performance to bring home the Silverware.
Well done Big Cats!
Final score: Wellingborough: 59 Cambridge Cats: 81
06 Mar 2009 - Andy Collins
Andrew Collins who has been coaching the clubs Under 16 National conference team has informed the club that developing personal commitments means he will unfortunately not be able to continue in the role, and that this Tuesday’s session 03 March 2009 would be the last midweek session and he will step down after last game of the season 15th March 2009. The Tuesday and Saturday sessions for this group will continue as normal under the direction of the head coach.
Andy joined us as a volunteer three years ago while the club was going through a transitional period. He acted as interim Chairman to see the club through a difficult time, gained his England Basketball level one and two coaching badge and has worked tirelessly to help move the club forward. The work with the under 16 group could not have moved forward without his tireless devotion, commitment to the players and attention to detail.
Andy stepping down is a blow, and the valuable experience that he gained over his time with the under 16s group is a loss for the club. However we can take great comfort from the good work that he has done for the club and moving the players in his group on from being near novices to competing in the National League Conference.
I would like to say great big thank you to Andy and also to his wife for the many hours of personal time that they have both given to the club. My best wishes are with him as he takes on new challenges with hope that while he takes a well earned rest from coaching he will be able to continue his contribution to the club in other ways.
Head Coach: Clinton Wedderburn
01 Mar 2009 - A mixed weekend
Its been a mixed weekend for the club on the court
The U13's recorded a win at home to Lynn Nets 77-40.
The under 16's had a tough battled with Kings Lynn and came away with a deserved 60 - 61 win.
The U18 Conference team gave up the third to an improving Baddow team and ran out of time in Q 4 finishing nine points behind. 81 -70
Our U18 P League team were let down again by Wellingborough who forfeited the game at the last minute.
The Senior men have a home game on Monday night against Cougars.
24 Feb 2009 - Big win for Cats Men
Another Big win for the Cats Men last night which puts us in the final of the peterborough league cup, this is fantastic for a team in only its second season. well done everyone.
The Final is 4:00 PM Sunday 8 March at Stanground Peterborough. but before then we need to get a win at Fenland on Wednesday to keep extend our winning run in the P 1 league
Sunday 22 March will be crunch time for the league as we are playing Nene Valley away that day and we need a strong support for what will be a tough game.
22 Feb 2009 - A good weekend
The club had a pretty good weekend with results going our way. The Under 16 NL Conference team gained an unexpected win 80 - 72 at home to Herts Leopards to go 6 & 5 at mid table.
The under 18 NL conference proved once again that they are a match for the London Conference teams with the home win 70 -65 against Haringey and the Senior men were in uncharitable mood destroying Huntingdon Hawks on their own court 115 -53.
Our under 18 PL League game had to be forfit as we could not get coaching cover, this was unfortunate but highlights an area of concern looking forward.
I don't have the result of the ladies game but i am sure that would have continued to to improve in the hands of coach Pete Charlwood.
The senior Men take a 19 point lead into tonight's Semi final second Leg game against Cambs Comet at home (Perse), and will need to to remain fully focused for their enforced P League replay away to Fenland on Wednesday night. can we spread the word and get some support for the men
16 Nov 2008 - U14 Roadshow - Ipswich
Cats Cadets on a winning strike!!!
Three recent Cats U14 encounters in the U14 Roadshow against; Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich Bobcats Girls, and Bears strong outfit, made for gripping viewing.
Our Cadet team gave a good account of themselves and Cambridge Cats won all 3 of their games.
After two comfortable wins against Ipswich Bobcats and Bury St Edmunds, Cats fought a close contest with Bears coming from 5 points behind in the last 2 min to eventually win 26 – 25. Smart defending by brothers Toby and Jake, supported by Moses, Will and Matt produced a few steals and deadly fast breaks, turning the game around in the last 30 seconds. Contributions at both ends of the court from all players, including the youngest, 10 year old Julius, who scored his first 4 points wearing a Cats shirt, helped to produce overall good team performance.
Well Done team!!!
Cats Cadet squad: Toby and Jake Andrews, Glen Kerrison, Thomas Froggatt, Jordan Searle, Mathew Linck, Julius Tamosauskas, Will Firth, Mathew Bauld, Moses Kanyamibwa, Noah Petrovic
Highlight of the day: Jake Andrews topped up the U14 Cats success winning an individual shooting contest and outclassing opponents with his swishes from long range!!!
