U18 start 2014 with a heart pounding win!
An alley-oop between Charewa and Somers Heslam during a fast break caused even the opponents team to jump off their seats and clap their hands like we were in an NBA match!
Hertfordshire Warriors started the match with a zone defence, that they changed to a man to man after a few minutes because they were not able to defend inside on Sam S H. With this change, Warriors were able to finish the first quarter ahead of 2 points. Cats in the second quarter alternated zone defence with man defence but did not change too much, so the teams went to the long break with the score of 46 – 45 in favour of the Warriors. In the third quarter Cats started to press and defended more aggressively, so they managed to score 30 points against 15 of the opponents. In the fourth quarter Cats continued to play at the same pace of the third quarter and were able to go ahead by 20 points.
It is here that Cats started to relax thinking they had already won the game and in doing so allowed the Warriors to recover the gap and play the last two minutes of the fourth quarter point to point. Thanks to the magnificent performance of Wellington Charewa who managed to get score 5 out of 6 free throws in the last minute, and in total scored 36 points, Cats brought home an extraordinary win with the score of 94 – 95.
Next game 1st February against Enfield Scorpions.
