National Shield 1st Round vs Brentwood
Cambridge Cats 65 Vs Brentwood Fire 57
Cats second game of the season came against conference rivals Brentwood, a back and fourth encounter from both sides saw Cats come out on top. An influx of new signings to the Cats this year was clear to see as they are yet to realise their full potential. Strong rebounding from returning centre Paolo Costa and smart shooting from player coach Pete Charlwood along with sharpshooter Rich Wellings, eventually put the nail in the coffin to a spirited Brentwood side. Cambridge certainly are a work in progress bedding in new recruits in all positions it certainly is exciting to think what this side is capable of achieving this season.
After the game, we caught up with long term Cats player Alex Sullivan. When asked his thoughts he replied:
“Billy Beddows had a big steal at a key moment in the 4th quarter that really helped us out in rubber stamping the victory, along with ‘never let you down’ Sam (top scorer from last season Sam Richardson) providing a solid performance. We really ground out the victory today in a tough matchup but I was really pleased with the passion and desire we showed today.”
Player / coach Pete Charlwood had a day to remember top scoring for his Cats side with 17 points. Helped along by Wellings and Richardson both dropping 13 points each.
