Cats keep playoff push alive
Cambridge Cats head into the christmas break on a high with a strong performance against Kings Lynn Fury taking the win on their home court 82 – 73. This puts the Cats 4-3 in the league and keeps them in the hunt for one of the top two playoff spots, although coach charlwood recognises that there is little room for error in the remaining games of the season.
“This was a big win for us and a much needed confidence boost heading into the break particularly after last weeks disappointing loss to Brentwood. It keeps us in touching distance of the top two but i don’t think we can afford many more slip ups if any”!.
The game on Saturday started with the Cats exploding out the blocks behing some strong shooting from S. Richardson and strong inside presence from R. Abrook. The Cats lead 28- 19 after the first quarter. In the second quarter Fury responded with some excellent shooting which ignited their transition game and the cats were struggling to take care of the basketball. The Fury led by 4 at the half 47-43.
In the second half the cats were able to re establish the lead after a strong start to the 3rd quarter. R. Abrook still proving a handful for the fury defence inside and B. Beddow was being agressive from the perimeter. S. Richsrdson also continued to cause the defence problems finishing top scorer on the night with 21 points. The Cats held a slim lead heading into the forth and it was clear this was going write to the wire. The fourth was nip and tuck all the way. With a minute to go and the cats up by 2, player/coach P. Charlwood ame off the bench to hit a clutch 3 pointer, followed by another jumper to seal l the victory. 82-73.
